Who is… Flip3k

Flip3k

FLIP is a DJ from Melbourne, Australia, known best for playing breakbeats, mixed with the best in techno, electro, progressive and anything else that gets people moving..! He has been playing for the last 7 years in Melbourne, across the city’s most infamous bars and clubs, starting his career with a weekly residency at the Friday night party destination that was St.Jerome’s. He runs his own night - JUICYLOOPS - returning very soon from a brief hiatus, in CBD venue TBA. He is also a leader of Melbourne Monster crew ROCK LIKE THIS, who throw massive local breakbeats and bass music parties as well as tour international acts regularly around Melbourne. FLIP has supported some of the biggest names to hit Melbourne shores; recent ROCK LIKE THIS parties have toured the likes of STANTON WARRIORS, A-SKILLZ, LTJ BUKEM, PLUMP DJS, ELITE FORCE, FREESTYLERS, HYBRID, DEEKLINE, LEE COOMBS, MEAT KATIE, CHASING SHADOWS, RESO etc. In 2011 FLIP Mixed the Australian CD ‘Mind The Dubstep’ together with Smile on Impact, released nationwide through Xelon Entertainment, and in 2012 he launched the Rock Like This CD Series ‘Broken Beats & Bass Music’ in conjunction with the crew, mixed alongside Citizen.com, boasting a large collection of locally produced tracks and amazing sounds from a large network of commonly toured RLT artists.. Both titles are still on sale via all good music outlets, physically and digitally.

FLIP is also one half of production outfit WHAT NOW? in collaboration with Jimmy le Mac who have released a number of remixes under various labels, and are about to release their debut EP in September 2011 on LOOPHOLE RECORDINGS, their own label, also set up in 2011 which has already released a range of quality Electronic music, with much more on the horizon!

What Now? - Cosmic Breakdown EP

1 What Now? - Jack Attack
2 What Now? - Attention Shoppers

The third EP from Loophole recordings, showcases work from label heads themselves, Jimmy Le Mac & Flip3k under the moniker What Now?, churning out 2 very different breakbeat monsters. The first track, Jack Attack, titled after its dark and sinister vocals, is a stomping dark progressive break, with deep wobbling bass to match the vocal samples and build up to an epically powerful breakdown, and back up to a dance floor smashing beat on the drop. Attention Shoppers, delivers a much different vibe on the flip, from the word go, with the rude air horn at the start of the beat to establish it’s a much more fun light hearted track. Very sample heavy, it bounces through its range of rising synth loops and energetic basslines to match. All the elements of this track would make it very hard to avoid busting a move to, and the variety of style in the tracks on the EP make it a very solid package.

Who Are…What Now?

WHAT NOW?

What Now? is an emerging new duo based in Melbourne, Australia. One Half, representing his hometown, is 25 year old FLIP3k (Phil Martin), a leading Melbourne DJ, responsible for running Melbourne’s leading Breaks parties in the last few years as a figurehead of the entertainment group, ROCK LIKE THIS, touring and supporting the likes of STANTON WARRIORS, DEEKLINE, DRUMMATIC TWINS, ELITE FORCE, LEE COOMBS, SKOOL OF THOUGHT, ADSORB, MARTEN HOEGER, RESO, KLAUS HILL, MYAGI, ROB RENG and NICK THAYER in 2009 alone. He also currently runs his own monthly parties – JUICYLOOPS – in Melbourne city, which continues to grow.

The other half, is 26 year old JIMMY LE MAC(James Mackay), a breaks/techno DJ from Nottingham, UK. He has been producing tunes since 2003, under the guise T1UK, and also as ROGUE FINGERS (with Matt 5 Shaw). The Rogue Fingers have played in Nottingham and London’s finest clubs, supporting DAVE SPOON, TERRY FRANCIS, CUT & RUN, TOM REAL, VANDAL, HEXADECIMAL, MAX COOPER, PETE JORDAN and many more. He also started the music night, BASS BREAK, in 2005, which is still currently running monthly in Nottingham.
They first met in the thriving party city of Nottingham, and instantly decided to ignore their studies, and focus on projects together. James has since moved to Melbourne, so they can focus on production, and begin turning some heads.

Their debut EP ‘Cosmic Breakdown’ was released in September 2011, on their own newly founded label, LOOPHOLE RECORDINGS, which is building a strong catalogue of non-genre exclusive underground electronic releases. With EPs from What Now?, solo releases from Jimmy Le Mac, and Australian Prog House producer Luke Meader already gaining attention, the upcoming releases from a range of Australian producers will no doubt turn heads.
Their debut release, was a remix of Melbourne producer Smile on Impact’s ‘STOP!’ EP, which reached the Breaks top 40 on trackitdown.net. Since then they have been busy in the studio, working on remixes for Chipsound Recodings (Spain), We Are Live Recordings (UK) and Xelon Entertainment (Australia).
